Vinod Lobo founded Learning Upgrade in 1998. The initial online course products were aimed at helping struggling readers and those learning English. The company has since added an array of courses. In 2017, Learning Upgrade entered the Barbara Bush Foundation Adult Literacy XPRIZE competition to develop a smartphone app for adult literacy and was one of the four finalists. The company partners with numerous organizations, including ProLiteracy, New Readers Press, Gooru, and World Education, to expand the reach of its products across the United States and the world.
