Key Takeaways

  • Framework skills and sub-skills can be used to inform creation of an integrated curriculum for adult education or workforce-training programs.
  • Lesson plans are ideal for adult education classes, including ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), since they integrate CCRS and are available at multiple levels.
  • Framework and lesson plans can be adapted to different educational and workplace contexts, as activities use integrated work and school examples to teach skills. For example, a lesson plan on teaching self-management identifies the sub-skill of selecting and using appropriate organizational tools to suit specific tasks. This could include learning a filing system for an office setting or becoming familiar with Google Suite to organize schedules and homework for college students.

The Transitions Integration Framework (TIF) is the guiding document for the Academic, Career & Employability Skills (ACES) project in Minnesota. In 2011, transition leaders from across the state identified the critical transition skills that should be integrated into adult education and ESOL learning environments. The content and implementation guidance came from 24 instructors who piloted the framework, providing lesson plans and suggested revisions to the TIF.
