Pure Michigan Talent Connect

The fourteen modules in the eLearning Soft Skills Program use video and interactive activities to teach transferable skills for the workplace.

What This Includes

Skills addressed: Humility, Communication, Conflict, Ethical Character, Personal Judgment, Problem Solving, Time Management, Diversity and Inclusion, Self-Confidence, Teamwork, Positive Attitude, Initiative, Flexibility, Work Ethic

Modules

  • Each of the fourteen eLearning modules includes videos, interactive worksheets, standards, quizzes, and assessments
  • Module content is not customizable but can be integrated into existing courses

Key Takeaways

  • Modules designed for college students, and videos can be integrated into most intermediate to high adult education classes or pre-employability and workforce training programs. For example, a video skit on time management shows four people role-playing their time-management strategies with viewer reflection questions for greater self-awareness. Extensions to the video could include keeping a time-log and reflecting on personal time management strengths and weaknesses.
  • Dialogue is quick and vocabulary advanced, so ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learners may find it challenging.

Voices from the Field

The skills were amorphous to students until the course provided the vocabulary and examples. Then students could see their family and community skills as organizational and teamwork skills.

Flexibility Is Key

For optimal flexibility, this program used Teaching Skills that Matter, Skills To Pay the Bills: Mastering Soft Skills for Workplace Success and eLearning Soft Skills program to build an online self-paced course.

The Lifelong Soft Skills training program is a series of eLearning courses developed through a governmental initiative, with content and subject matter expertise from South East Michigan Council of Governments, based on their 2012 report, “Lifelong Soft Skills Framework.”
