CareerPrepped is run by MaxKnowledge, which was founded in 2002 as an online training provider for career training. It is the e-learning partner of the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) and runs the ACTE learning network. The organization operates a national ACTE learning network website, as well as a website for each state, where instructors can access credit-bearing professional development courses and students and instructors can access CareerPrepped. This resource was designed with input from employers, educators, and students, with additional feedback from field-testing the product. Free for nonprofits, CTE programs, and other stakeholders, CareerPrepped is used by more than 20,000 users.
